In recent years, a recurring theme in Vlad Nancă’s work has been the extraction of “entourage” or scale figures from architectural drawings and their transformation into life-sized sculptures. This gesture reflects his belief that while architectural drawings may eventually materialize as actual buildings, the scale figures within them remain forever confined to paper, never realizing their potential to exist in the physical world. Nancă sees this transformation as an act of liberation. By enlarging these figures and incorporating them into his exhibitions, he creates new narratives while integrating them into his artistic practice.
For HUMAN SCALE, the process is reversed: the silhouettes are shrunk once again and dispersed across the pages of a publication. These scale figures, now devoid of architectural context, serve as a starting point for potential new designs—be it buildings, landscapes, or new companions. In addition to the publication, an educational dossier has been created, designed as a toolkit for workshops aimed at children, architecture students, or anyone in the general public interested in exploring these ideas.
